Last June, a groundbreaking announcement was made regarding the future of WWE's SmackDown Live show.

The show will be moving in October from the USA Network to FOX Sports in a five-year, billion dollar deal and it will also be moving from Tuesday nights to Friday nights.

Despite never really garnering the best figures in the 10-year stint between 2005 and 2015 where it was stationed on Fridays, FOX are hoping that SmackDown can challenge or surpass Raw's viewership figures which currently stand just under the three million mark.

Switching to a real sports-based channel may provide the blue brand with a content switch, with rumours of Ronda Rousey switching sides and Daniel Cormier reportedly being head-hunted for a commentator role.

FOX may indeed be pushing for a switch-up when it comes to the product but it may be much more of a bigger thing than acquiring a few former MMA stars.

Rajah are reporting that their company source has told them that FOX wants to make some changes to the SmackDown programming.

The first alteration would see one person removed from the broadcast booth to create a two-man announce team, similar to back in the early days of the blue brand with Michael Cole and Tazz.

Furthermore, the more significant move that FOX want to make is that they want to produce 'edgier content' that isn't necessarily politically correct like current WWE programming.

Despite the hints of some non-PG content in recent months, specifically relating to some of Alexa Bliss' segments on Monday Night Raw, WWE content is strictly PG and has been since 2008.

Considering WWE have sponsors to adhere to, you wouldn't imagine that a shift away from PG content would be happening.

But considering the amount of money FOX have thrown at the company to air their show on a weekly basis, will they need to seriously consider their apparent demands?

Don't expect any Attitude Era-like shows from WWE in the near future, but if Rajah are to be believed, SmackDown could be getting a whole new look come the end of 2019.
