Philippe Coutinho has failed to settle since joining Barcelona in January 2018.

The Brazilian became the Blaugrana's record signing when he left Liverpool in a €135million deal, tipped as a player who could replace both Neymar and Andres Iniesta all at once.

Perhaps it's that confusion as to what exactly his role is that has contributed to the midfielder's struggles.

Either way, his contribution of just four league goals this season has left the club's hierarchy unimpressed.

It's not just at club level that Coutinho has problems either, as he is also battling to save his place in the Brazil set-up as the Selecao consider bringing in a wave of youngsters.

And after his horror show against Real Madrid last month, it was widely reported that Barca could even choose to cash in on the 26-year-old this summer.

The jury is out on exactly why Coutinho is suffering in Catalonia. There are accusations he hasn't made the step up, that his price tag is bothering him, or that he has simply hit a bad run of form.

It seems his Barcelona team-mates are growing exasperated too, with Gerard Pique seen shouting "come on Phil, you're not plugged in" at him during training this week.

Pique had words

According to Marca, the players were working on a rondo drill at the start of their session when Coutinho missed a pass that had been directed at him.

It was that lack of focus that irritated Pique.

Take a look at the footage below:

While it might seem a trivial matter, Barca place great emphasis on their rondos in training, believing they have a huge impact on their ability to keep possession under pressure.

It sums up Coutinho's woes at the Nou Camp and it will be intriguing to see what the future holds for him at the end of the season.

Chelsea were being strongly linked with the playmaker before they were hit with a two-window transfer ban, leaving Paris Saint-Germain as the favourites for his signature if he does leave Barca.

Ernesto Valverde is continuing to back him for now, but that might not last if he doesn't improve soon.
