It's hard not to feel sorry for Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona - unless you're a Liverpool fan.

What was meant to be a dream move has turned into a nightmare for the Brazilian, whose performances have slowly got worse at the Camp Nou.

He featured in Saturday's 3-1 win against Rayo Vallecano and received a woeful rating of 3/10 from Catalan newspaper Sport after being jeered by his own fans.

Every other player was awarded at least 6/10.

"When everything he does, he does badly, it’s not just his problem, it’s the team’s, who cannot allow the luxury of playing with one player less at this stage of the season," Sport said of Coutinho.

Ouch. Coutinho has been a passenger for Barcelona in recent months, despite being urged by manager Ernesto Valverde to fight his way back in January.

"When [Ousmane] Dembele wasn't playing, everyone was asking about him," said Valverde. "Now Coutinho isn't playing and it's the other way around.

"When a player isn't playing or isn't happy, he has to fight to revert the situation."

Barcelona will have a big decision to make on Coutinho at the end of the season: should they keep him or sell him after just 18 months?

Coutinho cost the Blaugrana £142m in January 2018, which is a huge investment for someone who simply isn't delivering.

Him leaving might just be best, and according to the Mirror, the 26-year-old has "spoken with a number of Manchester United players" about a potential £100m move.

Coutinho has admitted he misses the Premier League and is aware that Liverpool would probably take him back, but as it stands, he would prefer to join United.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Coutinho, so there's a good chance he's going to dominate headlines this summer.

Seems a return to Liverpool isn't on the cards after all.
