Virgil van Dijk has been in remarkable form for Liverpool this season.

His £75 million move from Southampton is quickly looking like a bargain, with many considering Van Dijk to be the best defender in the Premier League and possibly world football as a whole.

The Dutchman has delivered a series of incredible performances over his first full season at Anfield as well as improving those playing around him.

It seems anybody who partners Van Dijk at centre-back improves exponentially in his presence and the rise of Joe Gomez is perhaps the finest example of this.

However, with Van Dijk's stock rising so much in recent months, it's only natural that other European clubs will be enquiring about his availability.

Van Dijk's brilliant form

The 27-year-old appears to be very committed to Liverpool, but when you're one of the best defenders in the world, you can guarantee that Barcelona and Real Madrid will be monitoring the situation.

A similar scenario unfolded last season when Mohamed Salah was at the top of his game, although any apparent interest from Spain seems to have cooled recently.

Nevertheless, it seems Liverpool are taking the appropriate measures to safeguard their finest players and Van Dijk could be the latest squad member to have his future tied down.

Liverpool to offer bumper new deal

A report from the Mirror emerged on Saturday night claiming that Liverpool will offer Van Dijk a new deal.

Per Football Leaks, Van Dijk currently earns £124,658-a-week on Merseyside and also collected a cool £6 million signing-on fee when he departed the south coast.

But now, Liverpool are willing to make him their joint-highest earner and raise his wages to the same level of Salah himself.

The report explains: "The Spanish giants are looking to shake up their defensive options this summer – and Liverpool are taking no chances with their £75 million star, who has been a driving force behind their Premier League title bid.

"The Anfield hierachy are ready to offer the Dutchman a staggering £200,000-a-week to fend off interest from Spain put him on a par with Mo Salah."

Music to Liverpool fan's ears. It's clear that Liverpool are taking absolutely no risks and want to keep Van Dijk at the club for as long as possible.

Given Real Madrid's dire performances this season, it seems inevitable that Florentino Perez will open his cheque book over the summer and Van Dijk could be a potential argument.

But that will become incredibly tough if the Liverpool man has committed his future to Jurgen Klopp and that's without considering whether he'd even want a Bernabeu switch.

Say what you like about the Premier League title race, but there's so much positivity at Anfield right now and Van Dijk could be the latest player to stick around for the ride.
