Dejan Lovren is certainly a character.

Often criticised by rival fans and always susceptible to an absolute disasterclass, Lovren regularly becomes a talking point for supporters despite seeing a decline in game-time at Liverpool.

There can be little doubting that, on his day, Lovren is actually a brilliant defender but his self-confident statements open him up for criticism when a poor game inevitably crops up.

Lest we forget that Lovren stated in the summer: "I showed that I took Liverpool to the Champions League final and now with my national team we are in the final.

"I think people should recognise that I'm one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense I will say."

Lovren struggling for game-time

Lovren certainly gets a hard rep and injuries have slowed his progress this season, but just 13 appearances in 2018-19 will be cause for frustration.

Virgil van Dijk has been an omnipotent presence in the Liverpool back four, while Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have been favoured as his centre-back partner.

Therefore, it came as little surprise that Lovren was taking residence on the bench for Liverpool's clash with Burnley, a game they won 3-1 thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Three nutmegs on Lovren

That didn't stop Lovren from attracting attention, though, and Liverpool's Instagram story caught him experiencing a torrid few seconds during the pre-match warm-up.

Being nutmegged once can often be a source of humiliation and teammates aren't afraid to burst out laughing when it happens but three times in 11 seconds? That has to be a record.

It's no wonder Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri fell to the Anfield pitch in laughter, while Daniel Sturridge walked over to hug the abashed Lovren.

Clearly Lovren could do with some serious work defending rondos - check out the clip below:

You should have kept your legs closed, Dejan.

The clip is certainly amusing and warm-ups aren't exactly critical, but it will open the floodgates for banter towards Lovren and it certainly doesn't reflect to well on his concentration.

Nevertheless, he could still play an important role as Liverpool chase the Premier League title, especially if injuries strike during the final run of games.

Lovren definitely has his place in the Liverpool squad and he's a brilliant defensive option to have casually sat on your bench.

That being said, it's hard to see him becoming a regular in the first-team as long as Van Dijk and Gomez are avoiding the treatment table.

Besides, don't be surprised if opposition strikers fancy a nutmeg to play themselves through on goal. We're joking of course but then again, maybe not.
