Memories have to be cast back to December 2010 to recall the last time Birmingham City beat Aston Villa in a Second City derby.
Seven meetings have past since the Blues won 2-1 at St Andrew’s in the League Cup that day and they couldn’t end the drought when the eighth clash took place earlier today.
That’s because Villa came away with the victory, clinching a 1-0 win on their rival’s turf courtesy of a 67th minute Jack Grealish winner.
However, the match was overshadowed by a shocking incident which took place within the opening 10 minutes as the soon-to-be match winner was punched by a Birmingham fan.
The pitch invader was quickly tackled to the ground, escorted off by the stewards and arrested whilst the midfielder picked himself up.Grealish did get his revenge by scoring the winner but the game will undoubtedly be remembered for that cowardly attack.
