Zinedine Zidane is set to make a sensational return to Real Madrid, according to Marca.

The Frenchman left the club last summer and has been out of work ever since.

Los Blancos have struggled massively in his absence.

Julen Lopetegui was appointed as his successor but only lasted 14 games.

Santiago Solari was then given the role but he has failed to live up to expectations.

The club have had an extremely poor few months.

They were knocked out of the Copa del Rey and Champions League, as well as seeing their La Liga hopes dashed in defeat to Barcelona, all in the space of a week.

It has been no secret that Solari would not be carrying on as manager past the summer.

And it seems he will pay for their poor fortune with his job.

He has already been informed of the decision and has said goodbye to everyone at Real Madrid.

A number of names had been touted as his replacement in recent weeks, including Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho and Joachim Low.

But Perez is thought to have preferred Zidane to return and it appears he has managed to convince him to do so.

Zidane's previous stint as Real Madrid manager was successful. He won nine major trophies, including three Champions League's and one La Liga title.

He will take over the club in a worse position than when he left it, but fans will still be optimistic he can return the club to where they once were.
