Zinedine Zidane's return to Real Madrid has raised more questions than it's answered.

Could Cristiano Ronaldo now rejoin the club? Has Zidane got enough time to turn around Real's season? Will he allow Marcelo to move to Juventus?

Another big question is what the future holds for Gareth Bale, whose relationship with Zidane deteriorated during the Frenchman's last season.

Bale was named as a substitute for the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool and scored a stunning overhead kick after coming on.

Not starting the game in Kiev angered the Welshman and speaking after the game, he said he needed to weigh up his options for the future.

"I need to be playing week in, week out, and that's not happened this season," Bale told reporters. "I had an injury five, six weeks into the season but I've been fit ever since.

"I have to sit down with my agent in the summer and discuss it. Obviously I was very disappointed not to start the game, I have deserved it but the manager makes the decisions."

In the end Zidane left his post and Bale stayed under Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked in October last year and replaced by Santiago Solari.

Solari was then axed on Monday and replaced by Zidane, which means Bale is basically back to square one in Madrid.

How much the 29-year-old will feature between now and the end of the season is anyone's guess, but according to Guillem Balague, Zidane's arrival is bad news for Bale.

Balague claims Zidane "does not want to work with Bale" and is almost certain to want to sell him this summer, but that won't be easy given Bale's age, transfer value and wage demands.

"Club president Florentino Perez promised the Frenchman (Zidane) control over the big decisions the team requires in order to entice him back," wrote Balague for the BBC.

"The idea that he would have decided to return without such a pledge is unthinkable. Which is bad news for some, not least Gareth Bale.

"The Welshman and Zidane do not get on. When Bale needed an arm on his shoulder and someone telling him he was not just good, but one of the best in the world, Zidane gave him silence.

"The relationship broke down by the time the 2017-18 season finished, hence Bale telling the world he was considering his future at the end of last season's Champions League final.

"Zidane does not want to work with Bale but it will not be easy to get rid of him. About to be 30, who will pay more than 75m euros for him and the 12m euros net he is earning at the moment?"

It's a wonder how Bale must be feeling right now. He's had a poor season at Real and that's unlikely to change now that Zidane is back in the hot seat.

Manchester United could be a potential destination for the Wales international this summer, while Tottenham have an option to buy clause that expires on June 30, 2019.
