Odisseas Vlachodimos had a night to forget for Benfica during their 2-2 draw with Belenenses. It was an eventful game in the Primeira Liga, with the league leaders failing to improve upon their advantage over FC Porto and throwing away a 2-0 lead against mid-table opposition.Jonas Oliveira opened the scoring for Benfica after 55 minutes and their lead was double swiftly afterward as Andreas Samaris bagged his first goal of the season. However, it was all downhill from there as the Aguias saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end, once again dropping points against Belenenses.Benfica had previously lost to the same opponents - one of just four domestic defeats - back in October and once again conceded two goals in the reverse fixture.

Benfica 2-2 Belenenses

The equalising goal would eventually come on 70 minutes virtue of Joao Diogo Alves Rodrigues, but it was the first goal from the visitors that will live longest in the memory.

That's because it came under such bizarre circumstances and when we say Diogo Viana scored a 40-yard free-kick, it really isn't as glamorous as it sounds.

The 29-year-old was taking the set piece on the left flank and looked to provide a cross for his teammates, whipping his delivery towards the back post.

Vlachodimos' terrible mistake

However, his cross went far too deep for the Belenenses attack and started hurtling towards goal, although Benfica goalkeeper Vlachodimos was convinced that it was heading wide.

And in a moment of madness, the Greek shot stopper jogged across his goal-line with his arms in the air, clearly indicating that he's allowing the free-kick to drift past the post.

There's only one problem, it wasn't heading wide.

Vlachodimos was left completely embarrassed as he essentially chaperoned the ball into the net. Check out the full clip down below:

Ouch.

It's the confidence with which Vlachodimos guides the ball 'wide' that makes the clip so painful and it's definitely one of the more bizarre goalkeeping clangers.

Benfica have a somewhat unfortunate recent history when it comes to conceding strange free-kicks with their young goalkeeper Mile Svilar making a terrible error in 2017.

The 19-year-old caught a cross-cum-shot from Marcus Rashford behind his goal-line, allowing United to claim all three points on their Champions League away trip.

So, it's somewhat uncanny that Benfica have suffered another bizarre goalkeeping error from the same end of the pitch and from a similar distance from goal.

It will hurt Benfica more considering they draw the game and they only lead Porto on goal difference after 25 match-days.

But as long as Benfica can manage the title race better than Vlachodimos can his surroundings, they should be finishing the season with celebrations.
