Before Juventus’ second leg against Atletico Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly told friends and family that he would score a hat-trick and his side would go through.

Following their 2-0 defeat in the first leg, the Old Lady needed a heroic performance from their main man.

And that’s exactly what he produced, fulfilling his prophecy by scoring three goals as Juve won 3-0.

Fantastic headers either side of half-time got Juve level in the tie.

Then, with just four minutes left on the clock, the home side were given a penalty.

There was never any doubt that Ronaldo would stick it away to maintain his chances of winning a fourth consecutive Champions League trophy.

It was an incredible display from Ronaldo and he, rather unsurprisingly, captured the attention of media around the world.

But what exactly were they saying?

Let’s take a look:

L’Equipe (France)

"Unique, monstrous, an extraterrestrial...The superlatives never fail when it comes to Cristiano, and the performance delivered by the Portuguese against the ghosts of the colchoneros will participate to reinforce a little more his legend.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy)

"Everything was written in the stars, those that shine on the Juventus stadium and light up a night that will remain engraved in the memory of all the followers of the Juventus forever, written in the stars by Cristiano, the man of 100 million euros, gave Juventus qualification that seemed impossible after the game in the Metropolitan Wanda. And yet, he did it with a penalty, the decisive goal of a magical night."

The Corriere dello Sport (Italy)

"Cristiano's nightmare returns to give life to the ghosts of Atlético, even with the Juventus shirt. Hat-trick of an absolute phenomenon and a consummate company. Juventus flies to the quarterfinals with a comeback that seemed impossible and still dreaming of being champion of the Champions League, which Cristiano has already raised five."

Tuttosport (Italy)

"A memorable night in the stadium with Cristiano dragging the Italian champions into the quarter-finals. Every Juve player was a 10 but Cristiano was a 20. Cristiano takes responsibilty in this team, he motivates the group in the warm-up, he makes the decisions that others would not take, that transforms the rigor of the tie and that makes the dream happen in the end."

Ole (Argentina)

"Cristiano looks at the big-ears, transforms and becomes a player from another planet, he always wants it for himself. It is true that he has already won five Champions, but he does not conform and goes for more, and with all that hunger for glory, fueled by his ego and his winning spirit, he made a bestial performance against Atlético Madrid and he alone ordered to eliminate the Simeone team: historic triplet and Juventus took the pass to the quarterfinals.”

A Bola (Portugal)

"Juventus confirmed the historic qualification to the quarter-finals of the Champions League by beating Atlético de Madrid 3-0 in Turin, in response to the 0-2 defeat. It was an enormous contribution by Cristiano, who scored all three goals in the match and sealed the Bianconeri ticket to the next phase of the competition."

Globoesporte (Brazil)

"Cristiano's worst season in the Champions League in 13 years took a turn. The Portuguese stepped into the Juventus stadium with one goal in the tournament, and another one of his magical nights, the '7' scored the three goals for Vecchia Signora in the 3-0 victory over Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday in Turin and guaranteed the team's place in the quarterfinals of the competition."

Mirror (England)

"Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Juventus turnarouned their 2-0 deficit in the first leg to reserve their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions at the expense of Atlético of Madrid, the Portuguese superstar was hired for nights like this one and it occurred to him to triumph with his new team, as he did with the previous one against Atleti."
