Despite not being involved in the WWE Championship match this past Sunday at Fastlane, there was a bit of a noticeable clamour for Kofi Kingston from the fans.

Earlier that night, Vince McMahon had stated directly to Kofi that he would be making that match a Triple Threat bout, but unfortunately for many he swerved the WWE Universe and instead added Mustafa Ali to that match.

Instead, Kingston was given a beating by Sheamus and Cesaro, which gave him even more sympathy to play off.

It's actually quite smart story construction from the WWE and it's eerily reminiscent of the Daniel Bryan uprising from 2014, and the underdog tale continued on SmackDown.

Confronting McMahon about his Fastlane decision, the Chairman explained that he didn't think Kofi was a 'main event level superstar' but he decided to give Kingston a chance after all to earn his place at WrestleMania on April 7.

Kingston was one of six men who took part in a Gauntlet match on the SmackDown before Elimination Chamber in February to determine who would enter the structure last.

That night he defeated three superstars before being put away by AJ Styles, but if he wants a shot at Bryan at the Metlife Stadium he will have to go through five other SmackDown stars, one after the other.

McMahon revealed his opponents next week to be Rowan, Sheamus, Cesaro, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton - no easy feat by any means.

No inside sources have given any major hints as to whether or not Kofi will be successful or if WWE are planning to give him the huge match at 'Mania, but with the momentum he has from the crowd it would be silly of the company to let it go to waste.

And if he does get the big opportunity at the Show Of Shows, even if he doesn't go on to win the prize you can always be guaranteed an exciting match when The Dreadlocked Dynamo is involved, and next weeks Gauntlet bout will be no different.
