The career of Loris Karius has been firmly in the media spotlight for almost a year now.

Back in May, the German goalkeeper's two errors in the Champions League final against Real Madrid simply stunned the world of football.

Never before had a goalie produced two errors quite like it in such a high-profile game, costing Liverpool club football's richest prize.

Back in the summer, there were murmurings that the Reds would stick by Karius, but once Alisson Becker was signed from Roma he was eventually sent on loan to Turkish side Besiktas.

Initially the fresh start appeared to be doing him some good, but the recent opinion of Besiktas boss Senol Gunes on the German was pretty damning to say the least.

He stated he would rather not pick the 25-year-old, saying: “He is talented but it hasn't worked out and we have a problem.”

Ouch. Karius has also filed a complaint to FIFA demanding they take action after not having his wages paid for the last four months.

So how do Liverpool feel about all this? Well, according to the Echo they are firmly behind the former Mainz man.

In fact, they are providing assistance and support to Karius and are engaged in constant dialogue with his representatives.

They are also said to be baffled by the 'stinging criticism' he has received from Besiktas and believe the Turkish side's conduct towards him has been unfair.

Karius has been a mainstay of the Besiktas side this season, making 21 appearances in the Super Lig and five in the Europa League.

His loan deal with the Turkish side is set to last two years, costing an initial fee of £2.25m.

Besiktas will then be obliged to buy Karius in the summer of 2020 for a further £7.25m as long as certain criteria are met - these are related to appearances and the team's performance.

It's a stick situation for the goalkeeper, but at least he has the backing of his parent club.
