Cristiano Ronaldo's superb hat-trick helped Juventus dump Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Italian side were 2-0 down after suffering defeat in the first leg and very few predicted that they would be able to overturn that deficit against one of Europe's top defensive teams.

But that's exactly what Juve did.

It took Ronaldo just 26 minutes to pop up with his record 125th Champions League goal, as he towered over Juanfran to power a header home at the back post.

Shortly after half-time, the Portuguese had the ball in the net again as Jan Oblak failed to claw away another of his headers.

With five minutes to go, the forward completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, rounding off a perfect night in Turin.

Once again, Ronaldo proved that he's one of the greatest players of all time - especially in Europe's most elite competition.

For Juve, it was a classic night. But for Atletico, it was another terrible Champions League experience.

Their dreams of lifting the famous trophy have been dashed for another year and to make things worse their biggest rivals, Real Madrid, are also set to benefit from the team's elimination.

According to The Sun, Los Blancos are set to pocket an extra £540,000 in Champions League prize money following Atleti's defeat.

That's because the elimination of a fellow Spanish side has gifted Real an increased cash injection thanks to how UEFA divides up the tournaments prize money.

Every nation represented earns a pot of cash to split between each club and the further a team goes in the Champions League, the more money they get.

How much each team gets is also based on league position and with Atletico finishing above Real in La Liga last season, they got a larger cut.

But Ronaldo's stunning hat-trick means Diego Simeone's side won't be in the quarter-finals as many had expected.

And due to crashing out of the Champions League in the same round as Real, Atletico's share of the prize money pot has been cut - handing Zinedine Zidane's side over half a million more than they expected to get.

So, even though Ronaldo left the Bernabeu last summer, his impact is still being felt at both Madrid clubs.
