Cristiano Ronaldo delivered one of his greatest ever performances in the Champions League this week.

There was an unerring sense of inevitability when the Juventus start completed his hat-trick, eradicating the 2-0 lead Atletico Madrid had amassed from the first leg.

Ronaldo drew the aggregate scores level with two headed goals, before showing nerves of steel to beat Jan Oblak from the penalty spot with four minutes to play.

In amongst all the rapturous celebrations, supporters quickly noticed that Ronaldo decided to mimic the 'cojones' gesture produced by Diego Simeone just a few weeks before.

The Atletico manager decided to remind the Wanda Metropolitano crowd of his manhood after winning the first leg thanks to goals from Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin.

However, the gesture - which earned Simeone a £17,000 fine - came back to haunt him at the Allianz Stadium as Ronaldo delivered his own rendition when qualification was secured.

The original gesture was never a slight on Ronaldo specifically, but his response was another example of him silencing the critics of himself and the team he's representing.

And it certainly isn't the first time Ronaldo has exacted revenge throughout his career, as a Twitter compilation has reminded everybody this week.

Ronaldo silences his critics

Perhaps the most famous example is the 34-year-old replicating Lionel Messi's shirt celebration after scoring a brilliant goal during an El Clasico.

However, there are many more instances with everyone from Sepp Blatter, Arsenal fans and Sporting Gijon players coming up against Ronaldo's resilience.

Why, the video even shows Ronaldo battling himself, including his battle to perfect the bicycle-kick which he perfected during last season's Champions League quarter-finals.

What ties them all to together? Ronaldo never gives up - check out the video down below:

Criticise him all you like, Ronaldo almost always has an answer.

He's guaranteed to silence fans, officials and players who have doubted him, and will probably remind them with a celebration or gesture afterwards.

No matter where you stand on the GOAT (greatest of all-time debate), it's impossible not to admire Ronaldo's determination to stay at the top and that includes his thirties.

Ronaldo is never too far away from a stunning individual performance and even at the age of 34, he delivered one of the stand-out showings of his whole career.

And victory over Atletico Madrid will give Ronaldo hope a sixth Champions League title and if you doubt that, do so at your peril.
