Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heading back to the Camp Nou. You couldn’t write it.

The Manchester United boss enjoyed the greatest moment of his career at the home of Barcelona, scoring the winner against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final there.

He will return next month as the Red Devils face Lionel Messi and co. in the quarter-final of the competition.

Reacting to Friday’s draw, Solskjaer expressed his excitement at the tie.

“We want these games against the biggest clubs and the biggest teams,” the Norwegian told Manchester United’s website.

“We had the finals against them in 2009 and 2011 and the semi-final in 2008 when Scholesy scored, and it’s those games that our supporters and this club crave.”

The first leg will be played at Old Trafford on April 10 before Man United travel to Barcelona on April 16.

Man United will host the first leg

Barcelona’s name was pulled out of the pot first, which would ordinarily mean they would host the first leg.

But the fixture has been reversed so that the Spanish giants will be away for the first match.

That’s because Manchester City were also drawn away from home in the first leg against Tottenham, and UEFA do not want the Manchester clubs both playing at home on the same night.

That would have been the case for the second legs, as both United and City were drawn as the away teams for the first leg.

But UEFA rules state that because Man City finished ahead of Man United in the Premier League last season, it’s the Red Devils who have had their fixture reversed.

So they will now host the first meeting against Barcelona.

“Should both clubs be drawn at home in the same week, the team having finished lower in the domestic league the previous season - in this case Manchester United - will be reversed in accordance with the UEFA Club Competitions Committee principles,” a UEFA statement read, per Sky.

The general consensus is that playing the first leg at home presents a disadvantage, as the away side can seize the advantage by scoring an away goal.

But Man United have already defied that notion, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 at the Parc des Princes after losing 2-0 to the French club in the first leg of their last 16 tie.
