Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt has reaffirmed his vow to try and fend off any interest from Sheffield United for manager Micky Adams should his hometown club come calling.

Adams is one of the bookmakers' favourites for the Bramall Lane vacancy, along with Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll and current caretaker manager John Carver, and has already made the Championship side's shortlist according to some reports.

But Valiants chief Bratt told The Sentinel: "We understand why there's speculation because Micky's a good manager and Sheffield United are his hometown club."

He added: "We want to keep him and we'd do our best to do that, although we haven't received an approach. Micky has always been honourable with us and we don't want to lose him."

Meanwhile, Bratt's own future is under the spotlight with Staffordshire businessman Mo Chaudry expected to formally submit in writing his bid to take control of Port Vale by the end of Monday. The development comes after Bratt and his board members initially dismissed Chaudry's opening advances, a move which came in for fierce criticism from a section of fans.
