The draw for the Champions League quarter-finals was completed on Friday morning.

With four Premier League sides making their way to the final eight, Manchester City and Tottenham will be contesting the all-English tie of the round.

Meanwhile, Manchester United face another monumental task after their Paris Saint-Germain comeback, having drawn Barcelona in the most mouth-watering game of the draw.

Juventus and Liverpool have ended up with the 'easiest' possible fixtures but two legs against Ajax and FC Porto respectively will be far from easy.

Either way, football fans have plenty to look forward to when Europe's premier competition resumes in April and it's anyone's guess who will qualify for the semi-finals.

Champions League quarter-final draw

The most recent draw did, however, settle the complexion of the knockout tree, allowing supporters to get a clear idea of who their team could be playing in the next round.

As a result, predictions are starting to roll in for how the remainder of the competition will play out and a group of data analysts from fivethirtyeight.com have joined in the fun.

On their own account: 'Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight uses statistical analysis - hard numbers - to tell compelling stories about politics, sports, science, economics and more.'

Data analysts predict

And in the case of the Champions League, they have crunched the data to assess each team's probability of making the semi-finals, reaching the final and winning the competition as a whole.

They had compiled their prediction before the draw in Switzerland and have now adjusted their figures in accordance with the fixtures.

It makes good reading for Manchester City who are given a 34% of winning the whole competition, while Liverpool are chosen in second place with 25%.

Take a look at the full forecast down below:

Very interesting.

It will probably come as a surprise that both Premier League teams are considered to have a better chance than Barcelona and Juventus, who pull up in third and fourth respectively.

Ajax will be feeling rather smug with their position in fifth but Tottenham and Manchester United will be kicking themselves with probabilities of less than 5%.

Nobody will be shocked to see Porto bringing up the rear, given a minuscule 1% chance of lifting the famous trophy in Madrid.

Therefore, all this considered, it seems the data analysts are predicting Barcelona, Juventus, City and Liverpool to make up the semi-finals.

Liverpool would then score a victory over Barcelona, but would suffer defeat in the final once again as Pep Guardiola commands his team to a win against Juventus and then the Reds.

Yet - as everybody knows - predicting the 'beautiful game' is never as easy as that.
