Despite the UFC never announcing a fight between the pair, the bad blood between Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor has been visible for some years - certainly on El Cucuy's part.During his days as the interim UFC lightweight champion, Ferguson was arguably the most vocal about the Irishman sitting out of competition, telling 'McNuggets' to defend or vacate on several occasions.
RIVALS
Stylistically, it's a bout the majority of MMA fans have wanted to see. However, it looking less and less likely with the Notorious continually linked to other fights, ranging from Donald Cerrone to Nate Diaz.
One thing that does link the two as of late is their issues outside of the Octagon. Earlier this week, the former champ-champ was arrested in Florida on Monday morning.
Now due in court next month, McGregor was arrest for strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief. This was due to him taking and smashing a fan's phone.
Ferguson, on the other hand, has also had a troubling week.
Details emerged that a judge granted a restraining order to Ferguson's wife, preventing him from seeing her or their son after allegations of a string of troubling behaviour.
While the situation continues to develop, Ferguson's lightweight rival, McGregor, found out what was happening and took to Twitter to voice his support.
SUPPORT
He tweeted: "Tony Ferguson is the type of guy that when all the chips are down, can pick them right back up again and come back stronger than ever!
"Came back from a debilitating injury in record time to give us one of the fights of the year!
"Let’s go Tony!!"
UFC president Dana White did recently touch on the fact that Ferguson was going through some personal battles, with the recent news coming as a major surprise to many in the world of MMA.
That's why the absence of Khabib Nurmagomedov as the lightweight champion has seen the promotion create an interim encounter between featherweight king Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier.
It's a fight many thought Ferguson would feature in, especially since he would be coming in off the back of an impressive unbeaten run.
Like McGregor, fans have shown their sympathy and are hoping Ferguson can get the help he needs and make a swift return to the Octagon.
