When Vince McMahon revealed that WWE was heading in a new direction and big changes were on the horizon, not many would have expected the WWE Championship to look like it does.
Daniel Bryan is now a heel and it's pretty clear that Kofi Kingston will be the one to challenge him for SmackDown LIVE's biggest prize at WrestleMania 35 next month.
Obviously, no storyline in the WWE would be complete without an authority figure holding down a beloved name the fans are fully behind and invested in.
It's worked even better considering Kofi and the New Day have remained relevant, it's not often Kofi has received an opportunity at one of the major championships and it's obviously something he deserves.
The latest loophole, however, is one that on the surface would seem like an impossible task.
With the WrestleMania card shaping up, it's pretty much confirmed that Bryan and Kingston will go at it. Still, who doesn't love a bit of drama that keeps fans on the edge of their seats?
Kingston has his work cut out for him on the next episode of SmackDown LIVE on Tuesday.
In a gauntlet match, the New Day member must get past Erick Rowan, Sheamus, Cesaro, Randy Orton and United States Champion Samoa Joe to become the number one contender. If he manages to do that - which looks likely with the time left until the Grandest Stage of Them All, Kingston will make history and do something no other WWE star has done ever before.
According to the WWE Stats Twitter account, no other WWE superstar has ever won a gauntlet match where they were responsible for beating everyone else in the contest.
In other words, Kingston needs to beat everyone in the match to make history and secure himself a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 35.
The closest anyone has come was Stone Cold Steve Austin back in 1999. He eliminated five straight members of The Corporation on Monday Night RAW but fell to the sixth - Vince McMahon.
Despite Kingston not being the original choice for the Bryan feud, it's safe to say that should Kingston make history and punch his ticket to WrestleMania, the reaction from the crowd both in the arena and on social media will be memorable.
