Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina has been taken to hospital after he appeared to collapse unconscious during the Italian club’s game against Udinese.Ospina received treatment after suffering a knock to the head during a collision with Udinese’s Ignacio Pussetto during the opening minutes of the match.The Colombia international insisted on continuing to play, despite suffering a cut to the forehead.Around 40 minutes later, he fell to the ground and seemed unconscious for a few seconds.Medics rushed on to the pitch and Ospina was stretched off and taken straight to a local hospital.

Thankfully the goalkeeper, on loan at Napoli from Premier League outfit Arsenal, seemed to wave at the crowd as he was taken off.

He was replaced by Napoli’s backup ‘keeper Alex Meret, who was ready to come on following Ospina’s earlier collision.

The latest update per Football Italia is positive. They say Ospina is conscious and that his wife is with him in hospital.

Their report also claimed that the incident, which happened just before half-time, changed the mood inside the stadium and that both teams were struggling to concentrate after play restarted.

Ospina is on loan at Napoli but Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed that he will remain at the club next season.

"Ospina will remain at Napoli next season, regardless of how many games he plays," the Napoli boss said in February, per FourFourTwo.

He will be eligible to play when the two sides meet in the Europa League quarter-final.
