Buoyed from the 5-1 Champions League win over Lyon in mid-week, Barcelona returned to La Liga action on Sunday night with a trip to Real Betis.

With Ousmane Dembele injured and Philippe Coutinho still a bit out of favour, manager Ernesto Valverde reverted to last season's 4-4-2 system.

Sergio Busquets, Arthur, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal were all deployed in midfield, leaving captain Lionel Messi to support Luis Suarez in attack.

It was the magical Messi who put the Spanish champions ahead at the Benito Villamarin with a superb free-kick in the 18th-minute, but his second was just as sublime.

Messi raced past the Betis defence and found the back of the net in classy fashion, but the assist from Suarez to put him through on goal was simply phenomenal.

Suarez's unreal pass to assist Messi

Despite receiving lots of criticism for his performances over the course of the 2018-19 campaign, Suarez has still scored 20 goals for Barca so far this term.

However, the Uruguayan has also added lots of creativity to his game and nowhere was that more evident than in his assist for Messi at Betis.

With two players closing him down, Messi poked a pass through to Suarez, and as the 32-year-old striker ran across the pitch, the Argentine magician made his move.

The five-time Ballon d'Or ran past three Betis defenders and Suarez, even though he had his back to him and was running in the opposite direction, incredibly managed to find him.

As you can see in the videos below, Suarez produced a back-heeled pass straight into the path of Messi, who made no mistake whatsoever with the deadly finish.

Atletico Madrid's 2-0 loss away to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday means Barcelona's victory at Betis moves them ten points clear at the top of the La Liga standings.
