Luis Figo has confirmed that the first generation Nike T90 Laser I is set to return this month.

The iconic Portugal midfielder took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to make the announcement, simply writing: "The best model ever of boots are back!! Stay tuned."

The boots are some of the most highly regarded in the recent history of Nike and many football fans will be happy to see them making a return.

Initially launched in April 2007, they became a staple in Nike's line of football products and were manufactured over four generations before 2013.

They were eventually replaced by the Hypervenom models that year, but will return to shelves for a limited release no less than 12 years after their original unveiling.

Return of Nike T90 Laser I

The boots proved particularly popular amongst forwards with Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres donning them during Premier League scoring sprees.

Nike are expected to have made a few subtle changes to the original design, although the model held by Figo looks to be an exact copy.

The Ballon d'Or winner wore the originals during the final years of his playing career at Inter Milan and will get the opportunity to lace up in them once again.

Blast from the past

This time around, he can expect the composition to be stronger and larger, with Nike predicted to ensure they line up closer to modern football boot practises.

The re-release is the latest announcement in football that harks back to nostalgic products, following in the footsteps of a number of jerseys based on old designs.

That was particularly noticeable with the World Cup home shirts of Spain and Germany last year, while England sported a training top based on the home kit from 1982.

Adidas also carried out a similar stunt with the unveiling of their Adidas Predator Precision David Beckham, celebrating over 25 years of their most iconic boots.

However, this old reference could be the most exciting yet and supporters will have to fight to ensure they get their hands on Nike's contemporary take on a classic.

Further details are expected to emerge regarding the design and release details, but Figo has done enough to whet fans' appetites in the mean time.
