WWE fans went through the emotions during Kofi Kingston's Gauntlet Match on SmackDown Live this week, but it ended on a sad note thanks to a surprise ending by Vince McMahon.

Kofi was successful through the original part of his Gauntlet Match as The New Day member managed to beat Sheamus and Cesaro of The Bar, Rowan, United States Champion Samoa Joe, and Randy Orton.

Many WWE fans thought this meant Kingston had won his opportunity to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, but Vince had one more surprise up his sleeve.

After Kofi had pinned Orton and seemingly won his dream match at 'Mania, the WWE Chairman appeared on the stage and announced that he had to beat one more opponent in order to get his WWE title match at this year's Showcase of the Immortals, the WWE Champion himself.

The New Day member fought hard and, despite his best efforts, he was defeated by Bryan, who hit a running knee for the win. Big E and Xavier Woods then came rushing down to the ring to check on their brother.

The loss means that Kingston will not go on to face The Planet's Champion for the WWE title at WrestleMania.

This Gauntlet Match and the effort by Kofi was absolutely awesome, and while there will be many WWE fans that are annoyed today, they need not worry.

If you watched SmackDown this week, it's quite clear that Kingston is one of the most over superstars in the WWE today. Fans are behind him, and they want to see him get his chance at WrestleMania.

The last-minute surprise ending and eventual screw over by Vince only served as another reason for WWE fans to get behind The New Day member, almost reminiscent of what happened with Bryan leading up to WrestleMania 30.

WrestleMania 35 is only a few weeks away, so it will be interesting to see how WWE books Kofi between now and then, but fans shouldn't be worried. He's going to get his opportunity for the WWE title, and it's going to be awesome. We haven't heard the last of this story.
