Kofi Kingston thought he had captured his dream on SmackDown this week of a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania, but it was taken away from him at the very last second by Vince McMahon. The New Day member was successful through the original part of his Gauntlet Match as he managed to beat Sheamus and Cesaro of The Bar, Rowan, United States Champion Samoa Joe, and Randy Orton. Many WWE fans thought this meant Kofi had won his opportunity to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, but Vince had one more surprise up his sleeve. The WWE Chairman appeared on the stage and announced that Kofi had to beat one more opponent in order to get his WWE title match at 'Mania, the WWE Champion himself.Despite his best efforts, Kingston was defeated by Bryan, who hit a running knee for the win. After the match, Big E and Xavier Woods then came rushing down to the ring to check on their brother.

The last-minute surprise ending and eventual screw over by Vince only served as another reason for WWE fans to get behind Kofi, almost reminiscent of what happened with Bryan leading up to WrestleMania 30.

The loss means that Kingston will not go on to face The Planet's Champion for the WWE title at WrestleMania, and all three members of The New Day showed some anger in the locker room afterward.

WWE released a video showing The New Day trio discussing what had just happened, with Big E and Woods even going as far as suggesting the stable should quit WWE.

Woods said: “Matter of fact, you know what? I think we should quit, honestly. If I’m being honest, I think we should quit.”

Big E doubled down and said: “Honestly, you’ve done a lot here. I agree. I think we should quit too.”

However, Kofi wouldn't agree with his New Day brothers, as he stated this would mean McMahon and Bryan would win, something which he can't allow to happen.

Woods responded by talking about WWE like an abusive relationship he needs to get out of, while Big E tried to convince Kofi to change his mind so that he could go home to his kids before they all left the locker room.

Obviously, they're not going to quit WWE. This is just a very interesting twist in the Kingston storyline, and it will be intriguing to see how the issue is addressed next week on SmackDown.

We certainly haven't heard the last of this, so for those fans annoyed today that Kingston's WrestleMania shot has been taken away from him again, you don't need to be concerned.

However, WrestleMania 35 is only a few weeks away, so it will be interesting to see how WWE books Kofi and The New Day between now and then.
