Manchester City and Liverpool's race for the Premier League title looks set to go to the death.

Last weekend Liverpool moved to top of the table with a narrow 2-1 win over Fulham. They're now two points clear of City.

But the Citizens have a game in hand, which means they will probably reclaim top spot in the coming weeks.

Looking at the two clubs' remaining fixtures there's an argument to be made that City - who still have to play Tottenham at home and Manchester United away - have the harder run-in.

However, according to a study from the Telegraph that calculated the 'difficulty rating' of each club's remaining fixtures, it's Liverpool who face the more daunting run-in.

City's remaining fixtures: Fulham (A), Cardiff City (H), Crystal Palace (A), Tottenham (H), Man United (A), Burnley (A), Leicester City (H) and Brighton (A)

Liverpool's remaining fixtures: Tottenham (H), Southampton (A), Chelsea (H), Cardiff City (A), Huddersfield (H), Newcastle (A) and Wolves (H)

It's going to be an interesting couple of months where the title race is concerned - unless you're a Man United or Everton fan, of course.

So spare a thought for Wayne Rooney, who grew up as an Everton fan and has played for both the Toffees and United. City or Liverpool winning the title is a nightmare scenario for him.

But he has a preference, and speaking to talkSPORT this week he explained why he wants City to win the Premier League this season and not Liverpool.

"It's a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head to head for the title," Rooney said on the radio show.

"I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool. I couldn't bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian.

"I remember in 2005 they won the Champions League and they're still talking about it now, so it would be another 10 or 15 years of that if they win the title."

Can't blame him really. Liverpool haven't won the league in almost 29 years and them ending their drought would spark wild celebrations.

Rooney might just go into hiding if that happens.
