For the first time in a while, it seems that the future is bright for English football.

That feeling began last summer when Gareth Southgate guided the national team to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990.

The Three Lions were narrowly beaten by Croatia in Moscow that evening but despite the defeat, fans are confident in what the future holds.

That feeling has continued into this season, with a number of English players impressing for their clubs, both in the Premier League and abroad.

Established names like Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling have had fine campaigns so far and alongside them, a few younger players are starting to break out at the top level.

One of those youngsters is Jadon Sancho.

The 18-year-old moved to Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2017/18 season and after making an instant impression, has become an important part of the team that's challenging for the Bundesliga title this year.

He's been so good that a number of other top European clubs are said to be monitoring him and recently, it was reported that Manchester United are readying a £100 million bid - one that could be rivaled by Paris Saint-Germain.

Should that move materialise, it would make Sancho the most expensive English player in history - by some clear margin.

But interestingly, Sancho isn't actually the most valuable Englishman based on his transfer market price.

With the future looking good for The Three Lions ahead of their first Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic, here are the 10 most valuable players Southgate has at his disposal.

10) Jordan Pickford - £36 million

After a brilliant display at the World Cup last year, Pickford cemented himself as England's number one.

He hasn't had the greatest of seasons with Everton though and has made a number of mistakes throughout the campaign - including one in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

But, he played well against Chelsea in a 2-0 win at Goodison Park last weekend, which should do his confidence a world of good.

9) Harry Maguire - £40.5 million

Maguire also had a great tournament in Russia and has carried that form over to the domestic league.

He's one of Leicester's most important players and has even been linked with a move to Manchester United.

For now, though, he seems comfortable staying with the Foxes, where he was named Player of the Year in 2018.

8) Trent Alexander-Arnold - £45 million

At just 20-years-old, Alexander-Arnold has a very bright career ahead of him.

He burst onto the scene last year and helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final, where he featured against Real Madrid.

The youngster is one of the Premier League's best full-backs and has been key to the Reds' title charge this time around.

Alexander-Arnold was really missed after he suffered an injury back in January, but he's back in the side now and will be hoping to help Liverpool win the title race.

7) Kyle Walker - £45 million

Walker has been a regular feature in Manchester City's starting 11 since moving to the Etihad from Tottenham in 2017.

Spurs fans probably won't ever forgive him for making that switch, but it's been well worth it for the defender.

He's already won the Premier League and the League Cup and City are favourites to win the title again.

Pep Guardiola's side are also chasing their first Champions League win too - and that could certainly come this season.

6) John Stones - £54 million

Another City defender who features on the list is Stones. He's been touted as one of England's best centre-backs since his days at Everton.

Now 24, he's become a key part of City's solid back line and has proved to everyone that he was well worth the £47.5 million it took to tempt Everton to sell.

Being part of Guardiola's all-conquering side has only pushed his transfer value up even higher.

5) Jadon Sancho - £72 million

Sancho has set the Bundesliga alight during his time with Dortmund. But it seems if Man United and PSG really want to pay £100 million for him this summer, they'd be overspending.

There's no doubt that the 18-year-old has the potential to be one of Europe's best - but right now he doesn't quite justify that huge £100 million fee.

But, if PSG or United do land the youngster in a few months, they'd be guaranteed a superstar for years to come.

4) Marcus Rashford - £72 million

According to Transfermarkt, Rashford's value is on par with Sancho's. And it's easy to see why he'd demand such a massive fee too.

Under Jose Mourinho, the 21-year-old striker struggled. But since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford, Rashford has displaced Romelu Lukaku as United's first choice striker.

He has nine league goals this season, plus three more in the Champions League and FA Cup.

At such a young age, he showed incredible composure to smash in a last-minute penalty against PSG to send Solskjaer's side into the UCL quarter-finals a couple of weeks ago too.

Rashford has already given us a taste of things to come and he could soon be one of Europe's top strikers.

3) Dele Alli - £90 million

Alli comes in at number three on the list and his market value continues to increase year on year.

He broke into Tottenham's team in 2015 and has since become a star player.

From midfield, he can provide both goals and assists and often pops up when needed most.

Only an injury picked up in January has stunted his growth this season, but after returning recently, he's been included in Southgate's squad for England's opening qualifiers.

2) Raheem Sterling - £108 million

Sterling has had a stellar season at Man City and has been a key part of the team's success over the last few years.

He scored some of City's most important goals in their title-winning year and so far this campaign, he has 15 goals and nine assists.

Sterling still has the chance to help his club to what could be a historic quadruple and his performances have been so good that Real Madrid are reportedly getting ready to bid for him.

But after the career he's had in Manchester so far and the chance he has to become a legend in England, it's not even clear if he would choose a move to Spain.

1) Harry Kane - £135 million

Following his breakthrough in 2014, Kane was dubbed a 'one season wonder' by many rival fans.

Well, almost five years on and he's proved all those people wrong, time and time again.

The Spurs star has won the Premier League Golden Boot in two consecutive seasons - and he was also top scorer at the World Cup in Russia.

Kane is now England captain and his goals helped The Three Lions to their first semi-final since 1990 last summer.

Despite suffering another injury in 2019, he's still reached 20 goals for the fifth year in a row and there's plenty of time for him to score a few more yet.

It's unclear how long Spurs will be able to hold onto their striker because he really is one of the best in Europe and he's also fully deserving of top spot on the most valuable players' list.

So there we have it. England's most valuable man is Kane, but Sterling isn't too far behind.

Southgate's team of stars will be hoping to impress on the international stage again as they're now fighting for a place at Euro 2020, as well as featuring in the Nations League finals in June.
