Live graphic compares Leo Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo's goal scoring against six legends

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of football's greatest ever

Scoring goals at the highest level in football is something that many professional players struggle with.

Some strikers are happy with 10 goals a season, but Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have torn up the record books with their ridiculous prolificness.

Ronaldo has scored 682 goals throughout his career, while Messi is just behind him on 656.

Most players would be proud to have those numbers next to 'appearances' on their record, but to have them next to 'goals scored' is frankly ridiculous.

No one in the modern era can compete with those statistics, but a video graphic from YouTube user FDOR shows how the two players compare to six other goal scoring greats at the same age.

Ronaldo Nazario, Raul Gonzalez, Marco van Basten, Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Samuel Eto'o are the six other legends chosen for the piece.

Between the age of 17 and 23, Brazilian Ronaldo was at a totally different level compared to the rest.

There is a school of thought that had he not been blighted by serious knee injuries, he would be in the conversation to be labelled the greatest of all time.

By age 24, Messi really starts to come into his own, with his 91-goal year in 2012 certainly helping him pull away - he achieved that feat in just 69 games with Barcelona and Argentina.

Ronaldo finds himself below his Brazilian namesake, Raul and Van Basten at that age, but begins to overtake them at around 27.

Ronaldo Nazario was one of the greatest ever strikers

After then it really is the Messi and Ronaldo show, with the Portuguese making serious ground on his Argentine rival in the following years.

By the time the video ends, the two current greats are at least 200 goals clear of the nearest competitor - Raul on 431, with Eto'o just behind him on 425.

Imagine how far in front Messi and Ronaldo will be once they retire, with both still scarily at the peak of their powers...
