Paul Pogba has arguably been the best midfielder in Europe since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at Manchester United in December. The Frenchman has been scoring goals, providing assists and picking up Man of the Match awards for fun over the past three months. And it’s not just Man Utd who are benefitting; France are, too.Pogba caught the eye during France’s 4-1 win over Moldova in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday night.Although he didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet - the goals were scored by Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane, Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe - he did produce a contender for assist of the season.

Griezmann laid the ball off to Pogba, who then spotted his teammate and friend darting behind the Moldovan defence and played an inch-perfect pass back to the forward.

It’ll be a surprise if we see a better one-two all season.

Griezmann then finished the move with a powerful finish past Alexei Koselev from close range.

Although TV cameras captured the goal perfectly, one fan from behind the goal also managed to record the footage first-hand - and it arguably makes the entire move look even more spectacular.

The weight of the pass from Pogba was exceptional - and so was Griezmann’s finish.

The two superstars are close friends off the pitch and you can tell from their celebrations that they knew this was a special goal.

“We could have scored more,” France boss Didier Deschamps told reporters after the match. “But these matches are still complicated.

“My players handled the game the right way. We did not fall into any trap.”

Following Friday night’s victory in Chisinau, it’s no wonder the bookmakers have France as their favourites to win Euro 2020.

They’re followed by Spain and then England, who thrashed Czech Republic 5-0 at Wembley.
