Martin Odegaard - remember him? He's the guy that signed for Real Madrid as a 16-year-old back in 2015 and was regarded as football's next big thing.

Since then, he's been in Real Madrid's Castilla side and played twice for the senior team but predominantly spent the past few years on loan in the Netherlands.

The attacking midfielder only scored four goals in 43 matches across two seasons at Heerenveen but is looking better this term, already notching seven goals for Vitesse.

Despite still being just 20, Odegaard had a big night on Saturday as he started Norway's Euro 2020 qualification opener - a 2-1 defeat away to Luis Enrique's Spain.

Spain enjoyed 77% possession, so it was hard for any Norway player to get on the ball but Odegaard did so a few times and evaded the world-class Sergio Busquets in classy fashion.

Odegaard starts for Norway against Spain

Odegaard, still on loan at Madrid, lined up on the right-hand side of midfield at the Mestalla, with Bournemouth's Josh King acting as the visitors' main threat.

Spain's XI included the likes of David de Gea, captain Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Busquets and a front three of Rodrigo, Alvaro Morata and Marco Asensio.

Odegaard evades Busquets in style

During his time playing for Barcelona and Spain, Busquets has established himself as a one-of-a-kind holding midfielder and one of the classiest operators of his generation.

That said, when Odegaard was confronted by the 30-year-old World Cup winner in the first-half on Saturday, he wasn't fazed and managed to get past him.

The Norwegian seemed to be in trouble and certain to lose the ball after Busquets closed him down and forced him to turn towards the touchline.

As you can see below, Odegaard produced a couple of neat touches and a lovely turn to leave Busquets wrong-footed before finding a teammate with an outside-of-the-foot pass.

The starlet came up with another encouraging moment when he played a lovely dinked through ball after a little flick in a similar area of the pitch to the above video.

What next for Odegaard?

Lots of people have already written off Odegaard's chances of making it at Real, but as mentioned above, he's still only 20 and remains a player with huge potential.

The recently returned Zinedine Zidane was the Castilla manager when Odegaard joined Los Blancos, so he'll have hopes of featuring for the club again in the coming years.
