It just had to be him, didn’t it?Steven Gerrard scored the late winning goal that sealed a 3-2 victory for Liverpool Legends against a team of AC Milan greats, 14 years on from the 2005 Champions League final between the two sides.Robbie Fowler and Djibril Cisse put the Reds 2-0 up, but Andrea Pirlo and Giuseppe Pancaro levelled the scores for the visitors. However, Gerrard’s excellent solo goal in the closing stages sent the Liverpool fans home with beaming smiles on their faces.Fifty thousand fans turned up to watch the game between the two teams that contested the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals. And while most of the players were now clearly miles over the hill, Gerrard looked like he could still do a job in professional football - maybe not in the Premier League, admittedly, but at a lower level.

Of course, he’s extremely busy managing Rangers these days.

However, the 38-year-old spoke to the Anfield crowd following Saturday’s legends match and told them that he’ll be the ‘happiest man in the world’ if Jurgen Klopp’s men lift the Premier League trophy in May.

"Believe me, I'm still feeling the pressure," the Anfield legend said when asked about Rangers.

"It's in the back of my mind. I've got a day job now and all my focus is obviously on Rangers.”

He continued: “But I've got one eye on Anfield and I just hope the lads can go and get us over the line because I'd be the happiest man in the world."

Watch it here…

Gerrard is - and always will be - Liverpool through and through. What a hero.

"It's always a special time to come to Anfield, especially when it's full, and just put the kit on,” Gerrard, who captained the team on Saturday, added.

"To play against Milan with all my ex-team-mates, and to get the winner, is obviously a special feeling."

As we all know, Gerrard never managed to win the league during his glittering 17-year professional career with Liverpool.

He came agonisingly close in 2014 but it was his infamous slip against Chelsea that contributed towards Liverpool eventually finishing second in the table behind Manchester City that season.
