It has been brilliant to see Sir Alex Ferguson in good health recently.

The footballing world and wider community were given a shock last year when the former Manchester United boss need emergency surgery on a brain haemorrhage.

Ferguson received round-the-clock care at Salford Royal Hospital and it quickly emerged that United were confident of a 'quick recovery' from their legendary manager.

News of his improved health was received warmly across the world and a few months later, the 77-year-old showed his class by thanking the medical staff in a video statement.

Ferguson explained on Manchester United's official channel: “Just a quick message, first of all, to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra Hospitals.

Ferguson's health scare

“Believe me, without those people who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today, so thank you from me and my family, thank you very much.

“Lastly I'll be back later this season to watch the team and in the meantime all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much.”

Ferguson stayed true to his promise and has returned to the stands at Old Trafford this season, watching his club's renaissance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and receiving a warm reception.

Ferguson raises £405,000 for charity

However, the brilliant efforts of those in the NHS hasn't left the mind of Ferguson and his most recent gesture is an incredible display of gratitude.

The Sun explained that Ferguson raised £405,000 at a star-studded charity event, handing over the money as a 'thank you' for the life-saving operation last year.

James Nesbitt hosted the ceremony at a luxury hotel in Manchester and Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hundreds to attend the dinner.

A source at the event explained: “Alex was in great form all night and had guests in stitches with his stories.

“It raised a lot of money but Alex was determined that all of it should go to the NHS. He’s always been a great supporter of them and that’s become even more the case since his health issues.”

One of the attendees made a very generous contribution of £5,000 and Scottish band The Proclaimers delivered a live performance on the night.

Such an incredible night of charity will be greatly received by the NHS and is yet another example of Ferguson showing his class towards those he cares for.

It's great to see Ferguson looking himself again and we're sure that his attention has now turned to United's upcoming games with Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
