Steven Gerrard was the hero as Liverpool legends defeated AC Milan 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Reds took a two-goal lead, with Robbie Fowler and Djibril Cisse getting on the score-sheet.But the Italian legends came roaring back. Andrea Pirlo cut the deficit with a trademark free-kick and they would then restore parity as Giuseppe Pancaro found the top corner. But, in typical Gerrard fashion, he rescued the victory for Liverpool as he struck the winner in the 79th minute.

The Englishman showed class to turn his maker inside out, before firing a powerful effort off the post and into the net.

Watch the goal below:

Typical Gerrard.

The former England midfielder retired from football just under three years ago but he clearly hasn't lost his ability.

He was arguably the best player on the park as he secured the victory for his side.

Now 38 years old, Gerrard is still in his thirties and could probably still be playing professional football if he wanted to.

He's now in charge of Rangers and, following the result, Danny Murphy has claimed that Gerrard would still walk into their midfield.

"I don't know his fitness right now but what I say the other day and what I have seen over the years, he would - with a little bit of tweaking - walk into that Rangers team," he said on talkSPORT.

Murphy then went on to say that he could imagine him scoring the winner against Rangers bitter rivals, Celtic.

"(He would) Boss it," he continued. "He would be humble and say no but he's still in his 30s.

"If he put his boots on against Celtic, it wouldn't surprise me if they won and he got the winner because that's what he does.

"But he's not going to do it so let's not get hopeful for the Rangers fans."

Watch him make the comments below:

After his performance on Saturday, Murphy may well be right.

Celtic and Rangers will contest the Old Firm Derby at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Perhaps The Gers would stand a better chance of winning if they had Gerrard patrolling the midfield...
