Formula 1 is a sport that is constantly evolving, in particular the design changes that are made to the cars; whether that be due to technological engineering improvements and the experts in charge of innovations, to the racing who endeavour to make the industry more exciting and current for the fans.Improvements to the cars have included the 2011 introduction of the DRS (Drag Reduction System), the 2014 major change where cars were only allowed to run on 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engines, and 2017 where the cars width was increased from 1.8m to 2m.And now it seems as the plans for new design changes to the cars set for 2021 have been leaked online. The alterations-to-come have been put in place in order to cater to the new regulations that will be implicated over the next few years. One of the main reasons for the changes is to allow the cars to follow each other better, in a bid to make the sport more exciting, and whilst the leaked design is still in the ninth stage of development, it gives us a clue of what to expect by 2021.

Following the leak ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, F1's managing director of motorsport Ross Brawn decided to reveal the full extent of what F1 are working on, and commented on the aesthetic improvements to the cars.

"I see no reason why we cannot have exciting looking cars," said Brawn.

"It frustrates me when a car in a video game looks better than the car that we are racing out on track.

"That is not to say we pay total homage to what will look great in a video game. It has to be a great racing car."

Brawn then went on to insist the main goal was to make sure the racing was improved.

"The primary purpose is to produce raceable cars, cars that will battle in close proximity," he said.

"We see it in other forms of racing, but they are often categories with fixed designs and everyone races the same car. You don't have the extreme designs like in F1."

He went on to say: "I am pretty optimistic that we will produce some great looking cars and they will be able to race each other much more effectively than they were in the past.

"It is the first time that F1 has majored on these aspects. But I want exciting looking cars."

Brawn has also said that the new cars are undergoing windtunnel testing, and added that the teams are working towards finding the best design.

Some of the improvements we can expect to the cars include a more aerodynamic Halo, a sloping nose, more aggressive endplates, a sleeker undertray, and fenders added to the front of the car.

There's no doubt the cars will look better, but let's hope all these design altercations won't jeopardise the performance of the cars.
