Fernando Alonso has hit back at Formula One for their promotional tweet about their latest podcast episode. On this week's edition, F1 had former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo on the show and he discussed all things Ferrari, including Alonso's time there and why he wasn't successful in winning a Drivers' Championship with the constructors. But, it's a promotional tweet that the official F1 account posted that has annoyed Alonso, and he's let them know by replying to it.The Spaniard left the Formula One circuit at the end of the 2018 season to further his ambitions of winning a second Indy500 title in May.However, Alonso departed the sport having never added to his Renault triumphs that he claimed in 2005 and 2006, whist racing for Ferrari.

Alonso's final season in Formula One saw him conclude the campaign in 11th position, a disappointing end to a prolonged stay of over a decade in racing.

The 37-year-old Oviedo-native, who came close to championship title wins for Ferrari in 2010 and 2012, didn't hold back when the F1 Twitter account, who run an official "Beyond The Grid" podcast, added fuel to the fire by teasing a quote from the Ferrari chief to attract interest.

Alonso subsequently hit back at the account, defending himself and his career in the sport.

In a tweet replying to the message, Alonso wrote: "It had to be a reason not to follow this account until now. Today you remind me again!! President never said that. Specially after scoring 80% of the points for our team. We race hard, together, with all our heart and we fought until last race for championships."

Di Montezemolo's full quotes read: "He was Alonso, not Alonso-Ferrari. When he wins, he's happy. When he doesn't win, it's the problem of the team, he's unhappy.

"In other words, he's less close to the team than Michael [Schumacher] and Niki [Lauda], particularly in the difficult moments. To be close to the team in the good moments is easy.

"In terms of performance, Fernando was very good. For me, Alonso is with [Lewis] Hamilton and [Sebastian] Vettel and in the race, he's very close to Michael. In the race, Alonso was and is a fantastic driver. He lost the championship [in 2010 and 2012] not for his mistakes.

"If he won one championship, today we are talking about something different. We are talking that Alonso, despite many years he didn't have the best car, he was able to win the championship. Alonso is very strong."
