It's the announcement Manchester United fans have all been waiting for.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was announced as the club's new permanent manager on Thursday, three months after replacing Jose Mourinho.

In that time the Norwegian has won 14 out of 19 games, reignited United's challenge for the Premier Leaue top four and guided them to the Champions League quarter-finals.

He fully deserves the role and it now means he can start planning for the summer transfer window ahead of the 2019/20 season.

United have improved in every department under Solskjaer, but if they're going to challenge for the top honours they need reinforcements.

Latest reports claim United are targeting a new right-back and central midfielder this summer, not to mention Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

It was previously rumoured that they wanted a world-class centre-back, like Kalidou Koulibaly or Raphael Varane, but the Daily Mail claim they're happy with their current options.

So, how could Solskjaer's starting XI at United look for the beginning of next season if he signs his top targets? Let's take a look.

GK - David de Gea

Now that Real Madrid aren't interested anymore, it's looking likely that David de Gea will commit his future to United by signing a new contract.

RB - Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Antonio Valencia is set to leave this summer after 10 years of service, so United are lining up a £40m move for 21-year-old Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

CB - Chris Smalling

For years Chris Smalling has been mocked at United, but under Solskjaer he's been phenomenal and deserves to keep his place for next season.

CB - Victor Lindelof

Another star turned, Victor Lindelof is finally living up to his potential having struggled during Mourinho's reign. Him and Smalling have been solid.

LB - Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has thrived since Solskjaer replaced Mourinho and at just 23 years old he's only going to get better, which is an exciting prospect for United.

CM - Paul Pogba

Reports suggest Real Madrid want Paul Pogba and the Frenchman's head has been turned, but he seems a lot happier at Old Trafford nowadays and United will reject any bids for him.

CM - Nemanja Matic

Now 30, Nemanja Matic has entered his prime years as a defensive midfielder and will likely retain his place for next season.

CM - Toni Kroos

United are long-term admirers of Toni Kroos and the German could be available for £50m this summer. Much will depend on his happiness under Zinedine Zidane.

RW - Jadon Sancho

Europe's next big thing. Jadon Sancho has lit up the Bundesliga at Dortmund this season and it's widely reported that United want to make him England's first £100m player.

ST - Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku can't stop scoring at the moment and now that he's finally back to his best, Solskjaer will find it hard to leave him on the bench.

LW - Marcus Rashford

His future may well lie up front at United, but at 21 years old Marcus Rashford can continue developing on the wing. Solskjaer gives him the freedom to roam inside, too.
