Callum Hudson-Odoi is starting to make some serious waves in England without actually doing an awful lot on the pitch.

Not that any of the blame can be attached to the 18-year-old, who impressed England manager Gareth Southgate enough to offer him a call up and his England debut against Montenegro.

The winger had also been at the centre of a huge January transfer story involving the Englishman following Jadon Sancho to Germany to join Bayern Munich, however this never came to fruition.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has appeared to struggle maintaining control over his squad in recent months and fans have voiced their concerns over the Italian's lack of attention to the clubs young players.

The fact that Hudson-Odoi managed to start for his country before his club speaks volumes, and Sarri has even admitted he didn't even watch the full game.

"I saw only 20 minutes," he said.

"This is because I had 14 players in the national teams and I had no time to watch 20 matches. So I saw the English national team only for 20-25 minutes, and Callum didn't start very well in the first 20 minutes on the right. He did very well on the left, immediately."

It has been heavily reported that the Bayern target is refusing to sign a new deal at Chelsea with his current deal expiring in 2020.

When asked if he felt awkward at all that his player had started a game internationally before domestically

Sarri replied: "No, because I have not to play against Montenegro. The qualification for the European Championships, the level is really very low. It's not the Premier League level.

"There are a lot of national teams with a very low level. Maybe it's better to have the European Cup for the first level, and a European Cup for a second level."

In response to the many fans who have been crying out for Hudson-Odoi to play more minutes, Sarri was as blunt and honest as usual.

"I'm not the coach of the fans," said the Italian.

"We have to play eight matches in 28 days, so I am sure Callum will start in two or three matches.

"Premier League, Europa League... for me, it's the same. I'm confident in him. He has started a lot of matches. Probably not in the Premier League but that's by chance," Sarri added.

"In the squad we have Hazard, Willian, Pedro, so it's not easy to start every match. Probably, in the near future, he will start in 75-80 per cent of matches."

It'll be interesting to see if Sarri keeps to his word on that one.
