It turns out Vince McMahon and the WWE did somewhat live up to their promise of giving more superstars deserving opportunities as Kofi Kingston is heading to WrestleMania.

The New Day member has been featured in a storyline full of emotions. While it was clear that he was going to compete for the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan for some time now, the WWE only made it official last week on SmackDown LIVE.

KOFIMANIA

It was a classic case of 'will he, won't he' in terms of the hurdles he and the New Day had to overcome.

In the end, Big E and Xavier Woods secured Kingston his spot against Bryan at the Grandest Stage of Them All in a movement - fittingly titled KofiMania - mirroring the YES! movement we witnessed as Bryan rose to the top of WWE.

According to a report from WrestlingNews.co, the plans were to be very different.

The source has claimed that Mustafa Ali was initially supposed to challenge Bryan for the WWE Championship at Fastlane. The man now named Ali was scheduled to lose but Bryan would have made him look strong. In the end, Ali suffered a concussion before the Elimination Chamber so that whole plan lost some steam.

ORIGINAL PLANS

The idea was then to move past Ali and have Bryan defend against Kevin Owens at the MetLife Stadium.

The supposed plan was for the Owens vignettes to get across the message that he's a regular guy that enjoys spending time with his family. Bryan would have then cut promos on him regarding his unhealthy eating lifestyle and habits.

Vince McMahon then changed the course of the storyline and personally decided to move Kingston into the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 35 against Bryan. This was all based on the fan reaction Kofi was receiving.

In particular, the reaction at Elimination Chamber won Vince over and Kofi's title match was confirmed.

However, the report has added that it's unclear whether or not the WWE will go ahead and have Kofi defeat Bryan for the WWE Championship. Instead, it's claiming that Vince was leaning in the direction of crowning a new champion, followed by Kingston defending the gold against Bryan in rematches and other contenders for a few months.

Following that, the move to FOX could change the entire landscape of WWE.
