Another day, another stunning goal from Lionel Messi.

Saturday's game between Barcelona and Espanyol at the Camp Nou was begging for a moment of magic as neither side could break the deadlock.

And in the 71st minute, Messi did just that.

Barcelona won a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box and their star man found the back of the net with a stunning yet unique strike.

Rather than go for power, Messi gently clipped the ball over Espanyol's wall and applied just enough curl to evade the goalkeeper's grasp. It's been described as a 'Panenka free-kick'.

Eighteen minutes later the 31-year-old doubled his and Barcelona's tally by timing his run to perfection and latching on to Malcom's cross for a swept finish.

Messi now has 31 goals in La Liga this season - Luis Suarez is his closest challenger in the top goalscorer's chart on 18 - and Barcelona are 13 points clear at the top of the table.

March has been a great month for Messi personally as he's scored eight goals and assisted a further three.

But it turns out his Panenka free-kick against Espanyol wasn't his first. Back in 2010, during a 2-2 draw away to Almeria, Messi chipped the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out.

Unreal. Messi was the same distance out against Espanyol as he was against Almeria nine years ago, so clearly he saw it as the perfect opportunity to try another Panenka free-kick.

The Argentine is on for another incredible goalscoring season at Barcelona and with nine La Liga games remaining, you wouldn't put it past him to break the 40-goal barrier.
