FC Porto and Benfica are contesting one of the most intense title races in Europe this season. The two most successful clubs in the country are locked together on 66 points with seven fixtures left to play. This weekend saw Benfica host relegation candidates Tondela while Porto visited fourth-placed Braga. Both collected three points from their respective outings to sustain the incredible drama for at least another week.Porto, however, didn’t come away from their victory over Braga completely unscathed.

The match ended 2-3 with two of the goals scored by the away side coming from the penalty spot.

Wilson Eduardo gave Braga the lead after five minutes through a rather fortunate bouncing finish past a helpless Tiago Sa.

Porto restored parity shortly before the half-hour mark thanks to brilliant corner routine that allowed Tiquinho Soares to nod in from an unmissable distance.

Braga exploded out of the blocks after the interval to retake the lead via Murilo Souza.

The Brazilian striker latched onto a loose ball behind the defence before simultaneously rounding his marker and Iker Casillas to roll the ball into an empty net.

Just over 20 minutes later, though, Alex Telles drew Porto level in bizarre fashion after referee Jorge Sousa pointed to the spot.

The full-back never looked like missing and coolly converted, only to immediately collapsed in agony as he clutched near his left hip.

Replays suggest Telles might have tweaked a muscle as he struck his shot.

The pain wasn’t enough to force him off the pitch, but you can see in the video below that he initially appeared to be in real trouble.

That has to be one of the strangest injuries we’ve seen on a football pitch.

Sergio Conceicao will be relieved it was nothing serious, with the first leg of Porto’s Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool looming on April 9.

Nevertheless, the visitors carried on their momentum and were awarded a second penalty with 11 minutes remaining.

For whatever reason, Telles didn’t step up and Soares was allowed to bag his second goal of the match and give Porto the win.
