An all-British heavyweight boxing bout came to a hugely controversial end in Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena last night when Birmingham's Kash Ali was disqualified in the biggest test of his career against former heavyweight champion David Price.During the second round, Ali had nibbled Price's neck and the 35-year-old then accused Ali of chomping into his arm.But the fight came to a dramatic conclusion in the fifth round, which left the crowd disgusted as Price had connected with a strong counter-punch right hand on the previously undefeated Ali, as the pair ended up grappling. The pair both fell to the canvas after an MMA-style takedown from Ali, who then proceeded to bite his opponent on the stomach.Price returned to his feet and showed the bite mark to referee Lyson, who immediately stopped the fight and disqualified Ali. The disgraceful finish to the bout summed up Ali’s night, having already been docked a point for punching Price in the back of the head.

Let's just say that Tony Bellew wasn't in the slightest mood to condone Ali's malicious tactics as he stood ringside working for Sky Sports as the former Cruiserweight champion voiced his outrage.

“His bottle went,” Bellew said, “He did some disgusting things that have no place in a boxing ring.

“He bit him not once, not twice, he bit him four times and the referee saw him twice; he’s a disgrace, he shouldn’t be allowed back in a boxing ring.

“No, he shouldn’t [be paid], give the money to grassroots boxing instead.”

The result saw the Birmingham fighter suffer his first professional defeat after 17 contests and also had his purse withheld. As he left the ring, several drinks were thrown from the crowd.

Bellew continued: “The referee’s done fantastic tonight because he wants to throw him out the first time he caught him.

“But he didn’t, he gave him the benefit of the doubt, the referee’s done a fantastic job there.

“But he’s a disgrace for what he’s done. Biting a man when your on the floor, there aren’t really many lower things in life, never mind a boxing ring.”

Ali and Price once had a strong relationship in the sport, with the former acting as a sparring partner for Price earlier on in their careers.

However, Ali's brainless performance will have surely left his boxing career in jeopardy with a lengthy ban from the British Boxing Board Of Control likely to be heading his way.

Price later revealed after the fight that Ali had requested a rematch with him, but insisted that he had no intention of fighting the Birmingham-born boxer again.

Speaking in the ring, Price was asked about a rematch, but he said: “I am here to box and I don’t want to get in the ring with an animal like that ever again.

"When somebody mistakes niceness for softness they are going to pay for it because that is what brings out the worst in me."

“I hurt him to the body just before the final bite he took. He did a couple early on and I thought he had lost his head completely.

"He said he wanted a rematch, but I don’t want to share a ring with an animal like that again. The main thing is that I move forward. I will take any win, and now we move on.”

Elsewhere on the card, former WBO-Lightweight champion Liam Smith outshined Sam Eggington whose corner threw in the towel in the fifth round and Olympian Anthony Fowler lost his undefeated record to his former team-mate Scott Fitzgerald who prevailed via split-decision after a 10 round war.
