Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 in a memorable Old Firm derby at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon. The home side led through Odsonne Edouard after 27 minutes until Rangers’ Ryan Kent equalised shortly after the hour mark.James Forrest then sealed the bragging rights for Celtic with a late winner, but the three goals scored were only part of the action.Alfredo Morelos was sent off in the 31st minute for striking opposition captain Scott Brown with his elbow. The dismissal was his fifth of the season, prompting a furious reaction from Steven Gerrard during his post-match interview.

Asked for his thoughts on Morelos’ red card, the Rangers manager said:

“I’ll deal with that internally – he’ll be punished. The punishment will be financial and the money will go to the supporters that came here today,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think that’s only right. He let his teammates down and the club down again – and I can’t defend him anymore.

“I think I’ve gone above and beyond. I still love him; he’s still a fantastic player, I’ll still protect him. But it gets to a line – he was probably already above the line with me – but I can’t defend it anymore.

“I will recommend to the board that he’s fined a weeks’ wages and I will also recommend that that money should go to the fans.”

Rangers were arguably lucky to have even ten men on the pitch at the end of the 90 minutes.

In the aftermath of Celtic’s late winner, Kent approached Brown – who instigated the incident leading to Morelos seeing red – and shoved him the face.

Reflecting on the various flashpoints in Glasgow, Gerrard said: "You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked. Celtic players have the right to celebrate but to do it right in your race, Halliday has the right to protect his own people.

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view.

"We've hurt ourselves badly this season with a lack of discipline. I've given my players the benefit of the doubt on too many times. Morelos has asked me for a chat, and that will be picked up.

"The gap was already big and it's even bigger now. The buck stops with me and I'm ready for that. We will move forward from this and try to finish the season as strong as we can."

Celtic are now 13 points clear of their city rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
