Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with a crucial 2-1 win against Tottenham on Sunday. The game looked destined to end as a draw until Hugo Lloris flapped at Mohamed Salah’s cross and the ball ricocheted off Toby Alderweireld and into his own net. That game-changing moment in the 90th minute at Anfield will play a huge part in the title race.Had it ended 1-1, Liverpool would have been level on points with Manchester City, having played one more game than Pep Guardiola’s side. Now, they return to top spot and the feeling that this really could be their year is only growing.

"I told the boys after the game there are 500,000 ways to win a football game, and today was rather ugly,” Jurgen Klopp said afterwards, per BBC Sport.

"But without a bit of luck you cannot be in the position we are in.”

Liverpool are the kings of last-minute winners

Yet Liverpool have a history when it comes to late winners.

In December, Divock Origi scored in the 96th-minute to hand the Reds a 1-0 win against Everton.

And it turns out that nobody is better when it comes to last-gasp winners.

Per Opta, Liverpool have scored 33 winning goals in the 90th minute or later in the Premier League, which is more than any other club.

Arsenal have 25, Manchester United and Tottenham both have 22 and Chelsea have 21.

It’s thought that Man United are the kings of late winners, but it seems that Liverpool are actually the club that deserves its own ‘Fergie Time’ moniker.

Klopp’s side weren’t at their best against Tottenham but they deserve credit for digging deep and getting that goal.

There was a heart-in-mouth moment when Moussa Sissoko broke clear in 2-on-1 situation late on but Virgil van Dijk forced the Frenchman to take a left-footed shot and he skied his effort harmlessly over the bar.

Minutes later, Alderweireld put through his own net to hand the hosts all three points.

It was in those final moments where Liverpool showed their title credentials.
