Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle: Gunners up to third after 10th home win on the bounce

Arsenal celebrate the opening goal of the evening

Arsenal are up to third in the Premier League table after beating Newcastle 2-0 at the Emirates.

Despite no Granit Xhaka or Laurent Koscielny in the squad, the Gunners were simply too good for the visitors.

Captain for the night Aaron Ramsey scored the opening goal, placing a left-footed shot beyond the reach of Martin Dubravka.

The Welshman had a goal ruled out dubiously for offside early in the first-half as well.

Alexandre Lacazette then added a lovely second goal to seal the three points, lobbing a helpless Dubravka after a rather unconventional one-two with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Sadly for the Gunners, Ramsey had to be subbed off due to injury, with the 28-year-old heading straight down the tunnel.

Unai Emery's side have now won their last 10 home games on the spin, with the new manager's philosophy beginning to take shape in north London.

The Spaniard has actually equalled Arsene Wenger's points total from last season with six Premier League games to go.

Emery on the touchline

After overtaking bitter rivals Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United in the table, the Gunners could well be favourites for a Champions League place now...
