Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Monday evening has completely changed the complexion of the top four race in the Premier League.

With seven games remaining of the season, the Gunners find themselves third and two points above Tottenham, who were 10 points clear just over a month ago.

Manchester United are then fifth on the same points as Spurs (61), while Chelsea are sixth and a further point below.

Who will finish where is anyone's guess right now, but Arsenal unquestionably have the easiest run-in. Destiny is in their hands.

Unai Emery's men have played the rest of the top six twice each and now only face clubs below them in the Premier League table.

As for Tottenham, they still have to travel to Manchester City on April 20, while United and Chelsea both have two more games with top six sides.

Arsenal finishing above Spurs would be a disaster for the white half of north London, not least because they've just built a stadium fit for Champions League football.

Simply put, Tottenham playing in the Europa League at the new White Hart Lane next season would be embarrassing for them.

It's a scenario that could come to pass if they keep losing games, which seems to be worrying former Spurs midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood.

Sherwood said alongside Alan Shearer on Sunday that he can see Arsenal winning the rest of their games and that he doesn't even want to think about Tottenham playing in the Europe League.

"I think they will," Sherwood hesitantly replied when asked if Spurs will make the top four. "What alarms me is that if Arsenal win their game in hand against Newcastle, which I think they'll do...

"For Arsenal to finish above Tottenham, when we thought the pendulum had swung the other way and for a new manager to go in and hardly strengthen his squad, would be unthinkable.

"To go into this new stadium and play Thursday nights in the Europe League, it's unthinkable. I don't even want to think about it.

"I looked at Arsenal's fixtures, they'll win every game. They can win every single game."

Someone's scared. Arsenal are in pole position to claim a Champions League spot but it has to be said that their remaining fixtures are far from easy.

Tough trips to Everton, Watford, Wolves, Leicester City and Burnley await the Gunners, who will be favourites for each but always seem susceptible to slipping up.
