The Premier League has had some incredible goalscorers during its 26-year history.

Of course, Alan Shearer is the best when it comes to goals alone.

The Newcastle United legend bagged 260 Premier League goals during his career, a record that has stood - and will stand - for many years to come.

The only player that has a realistic chance of reaching that tally is Harry Kane.

The Tottenham forward has already notched 125 goals at the age of 25. If he remains at Spurs for the rest of his career, he has a good chance to score another 135 goals.

But let’s forget about solely the number of goals scored for a moment.

Let’s look at minute/goal ratio in Premier League history.

Using date from transfermarket.co.uk, we’ve identified the top 10 goalscorers in England’s top-flight in terms of minutes per goal.

And there are a few surprises…

1 | Sergio Aguero | 162 goals | One goal every 106 minutes

2 | Harry Kane | 125 goals | One goal every 116 minutes

3 | Mohamed Salah | 51 goals | One goal every 121 minutes

4 | Thierry Henry | 176 goals | One goal every 121 minutes

5 | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | 27 goals | One goal every 122 minutes

6 | Gabriel Jesus | 26 goals | One goal every 123 minutes

7 | Adam Le Fondre | 12 goals | One goal ever 124 minutes

8 | Ruud van Nistelrooy | 95 goals | One goal every 128 minutes

9 | Luis Suarez | 69 goals | One goal every 138 minutes

10 | Robin van Persie | 144 goals | One goal every 139 minutes

That’s right, there’s no Shearer who averaged a goal every 147 minutes.

And who expected Le Fondre to be there?

During his only Premier League campaign in 2012/13, Le Fondre scored 12 goals in just 11 starts, with his final eight strikes coming as a substitute.

But it’s interesting that the top three in the list are currently playing.

Has the rate of goalscoring gone up or will their minute/goal ratio deteriorate as they get older?

We’ll find out in the coming years…
