Heavyweight Kash Ali has apologised to David Price after biting the Liverpool boxer four times during the fifth round of their bout on Saturday.

After having his license suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control, the Birmingham fighter was urged to apologise for his actions, which left colleagues like Tony Bellew branding him a "disgrace".

In a statement, Ali said: "I would like to apologise for my unacceptable behaviour in my fight against David Price.

"I am sorry to all boxing fans, to my team, my family, the British Boxing Board, David Price, his team, and his family."

Ali had already been docked a point for an illegal punch to the back of Price's head, an unsportsmanlike moment that fans wouldn't have expected to develop into the actions which caused Ali's disqualification.

"I am hugely embarrassed for my actions and the way the whole fight unfolded.

"The occasion got the better of me and those who know me, including David, can testify that my behaviour on Saturday during the fight was not a true reflection of who I am."

The 27-year-old was escorted from the ring by security inside the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, after Price's home fans were understandably infuriated with Ali's actions, with drinks and other objects thrown in his direction.

Despite a hearing in front of the BBBoC set for April, Ali refused to comment in detail on any further action coming his way, choosing only to reveal Price's classy response to his apology.

"I have had a conversation with David Price," Ali added. "I really appreciate the way he has shown great dignity in how he has dealt with the matter and has graciously accepted my apology.

"I admit that it was embarrassing for me, but I learned that nobody appreciates such poor behaviour."

Price revealed Ali initially asked for a rematch after the scrapped bout, something the Liverpudlian isn't even considering.

“I am here to box and I don’t want to get in the ring with an animal like that ever again. When somebody mistakes niceness for softness they are going to pay for it because that is what brings out the worst in me.

"He said he wanted a rematch, but I don’t want to share a ring with an animal like that again. The main thing is that I move forward. I will take any win, and now we move on.”
