It’s a very exciting time for the England national team right now.

The Three Lions have a considerable number of talented young players coming through to the senior squad and there is a growing feeling that it won’t be long before they win a major tournament.

Former England international Gary Lineker thinks as much, tweeting after the 5-0 win against the Czech Republic last month: “Never thought I’d say this but I reckon England will win something.”

Gareth Southgate’s side followed up that 5-0 victory with a 5-1 win against Montenegro, ensuring the perfect start to their qualifying campaign for next year’s European Championship.

Having also reached the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, England’s performances certainly haven’t gone unnoticed.

Indeed, Belgium and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne believes 2020 could be the year when England win something.

De Bruyne will be eyeing glory at Euro 2020 with Belgium. But he believes England, alongside France, are the favourites to win the tournament.

De Bruyne: England and France are favourites

“I told the England guys a week ago that you (England) should win the Euros," De Bruyne said, per Sky Sports.

"I think they are favourites, with France.

"I see the guys already established, and those coming up, so the future looks really good.

"Will they win it? I don't know, because only one team can win it, but you have a chance to do well in the next 10 years."

It's interesting that De Bruyne would rave about England when Belgium defeated the Three Lions in both of their encounters at the 2018 World Cup.

But he is right when he says the future looks good for England, with Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi both progressing to the senior squad.

England haven’t won a major international tournament since 1966 but they are well placed to end that drought.

And the Man City midfielder believes club teammate Phil Foden could also be a part of the Euro 2020 squad.

“Southgate will do what he needs to do, and if Phil progresses well, he has a chance to go to the Euros next year,” De Bruyne continued.

“He will play enough games for England."
