Events over the past few weeks have proven that football still has a huge problem with racism.

England’s players were racially abused by Montenegro supporters during their 5-1 win in Podgorica last month.

And Juventus’ 19-year-old forward Moise Kean was subjected to racist chanting during the club’s 2-0 win against Cagliari on Tuesday.

The reaction of his teammate Leonardo Bonucci, who said Kean was partly to blame for the abuse he received, was truly disturbing.

Not enough is being done to remove racism from the game but the actions of certain players is encouraging.

Raheem Sterling, for example, called out Bonucci over his comments about Kean and has also helped England teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi deal with the abuse he has received playing for his country and Chelsea.

England captain Harry Kane has said he would be prepared to lead the team off the pitch if players are subjected to more racist abuse. It could take such drastic measures to help the issue.

Danny Rose: I've had enough

Unfortunately, it’s been a major issue for far too long and Danny Rose has now said he cannot wait to see the back of football because of the racism in the sport.

The Tottenham defender was among the England players targeted by Montenegro fans and he’s criticised the ruling authorities for failing to deal with the problem appropriately.

“I’ve had enough,” Rose said, per the Daily Mail. “At the minute, I programme myself to think, ‘I’ve got five or six more years left in football and I just can't wait to see the back of it’.

“Seeing how things are done in the game at the minute, I just want to get out of it.

“That's how I feel. I've five or six more years left and I just want to enjoy football as much as I can.

“There's so much politics and whatever in football and I just can't wait to see the back of it, to be honest.”

UEFA are investigating the abuse that Rose, Sterling and Hudson-Odoi received in Montenegro but the left-back doesn’t expect the governing body to hand out a severe punishment.

“Obviously it is a bit sad,” Rose added. “But when countries only get fined what I'd probably spend on a night out in London, what do you expect?

“When the punishment is not as harsh, what do you expect? You see my manager at Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino, get banned for two games when he has just been in a confrontation with Mike Dean at Burnley.

“And, yet, a country can only get fined a little bit of money for being racist.

“It's just a bit of a farce at the minute. Until there's a harsh punishment there's not much else we can expect.”

It's a shame that, at the age of 28, Rose is already looking forward to the day when he can hang his boots up.
