Liverpool secured a massive win against Southampton on Friday night.

With the Premier League title race going down to the wire, the Reds couldn't afford to drop points on the south coast as they looked to apply pressure on Manchester City this weekend.

However, falling 1-0 down to an early goal from Shane Long was always going to prove a real test of character and Jurgen Klopp's men had to dig deep to grind out a result.

Naby Keita calmed the nerves by levelling the scores before half-time, while the decision to introduce James Milner and Jordan Henderson after the break proved to be inspired.

Mohamed Salah ended his goal drought with a brilliant individual goal on 80 minutes and Henderson put the game beyond doubt just a few moments later.

Southampton 1-3 Liverpool

The victory has elevated Liverpool to the Premier League summit and although City have a game in hand, nothing less than three points at Crystal Palace will do for them.

So, bearing all of that in mind, it won't be surprising to hear that Klopp was rather pleased with his team's performance and spoke rather passionately in his post-match interviews.

Say what you like about the German - and even we'll admit he comes up with some bizarre excuses - but he is always entertaining to watch when speaking to the media.

Klopp's amusing interview

That was certainly the case on Friday when the former Borussia Dortmund boss casually dropped the F-bomb during one of numerous television interviews.

Whether or not he was allowed to swear is unknown, but Klopp couldn't help himself when describing the mentality of his Liverpool squad recently.

Klopp explained to the interviewer: "It was brilliant, I've got to say.

"I thought the boys were - and you maybe have to beep - but they’re a f***ing bunch of mentality monsters, it’s unbelievable!”

That's certainly one way to put it, Jurgen!

Sadly the clip doesn't show the reaction shortly afterwards, but the lack of intervention suggests that Klopp was free to swear to his heart's content.

The footage has since made an appearance on Liverpool's Reddit page and will join the long list of reasons why Kopites love their manager so much.

Cursing aside, though, Klopp had plenty of family-friendly praise for his team and remarked: “I told the boys we have a good mentality among us.

"We were well organised, we pressed high and were everywhere on the pitch. They deserved their early goal but we adjusted to the situation, stayed calm and waited for our moment.

"The performance was not at the top level but at this stage it is about fighting. People want us to play like Manchester City but we are unable to do that, so we play our own football."
