If Liverpool are going to win this title, they are going to do it by hook or by crook.

The Anfield side simply won’t relent in their pursuit of domestic glory and after a nightmare start at Southampton on Friday night, demonstrated their incredible sheer bloody-mindedness once again.

The Reds returned to the summit of the Premier League after goals from Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson saw them dodge yet another potential banana skin.

Jurgen Klopp’s side looked to have forgotten to get off the bus as the south coast side made them pay for a sluggish start with Shane Long lashing home from short range.

Liverpool fans would have been watching from between their fingers as the Saints flooded forward but eventually they dragged themselves back into it with Keita equalising late in the first stanza.

They looked flat in the second half though and Klopp had to act quickly, bringing on Jordan Henderson and James Milner in a bid to shift the momentum.

The Liverpool captain, in particular, looked a man possessed after coming and was determined to drag his side over the line.

Henderson completely flipped the game and after Salah streaked away to score on the counter, the skipper arrived in the six-yard box to bury Roberto Firmino’s low cross - game over.

It could prove to be a massive three points for the Merseysiders as they continue to pressure Manchester City at every turn.

In the aftermath of the game, Henderson couldn’t help himself but approach Sky pundit Gary Neville, who was covering the game from the sideline.

Neville has made it no secret that he does not want Liverpool to win the title and Henderson simply couldn’t resist.

Speaking in the post-match show Neville revealed exactly what the Englishman had said.

“Jordan Henderson came over to me at the end of the game and said ‘you don’t look very happy’.

“And I said ‘I’m not Jordan’.

“I feel cold [about title race] because I’ve not got a particular favourite between either side to win the title.”

Brilliant.

Henderson knows his team stand on the precipice of something very special and no one is going to stop him giving his absolute all to finally claim the holy grail of English football.

Liverpool could win this title, they really could - and what a monumental achievement that will be.
